Carry the Joy 2022!

New Nonprofit Raises Funds and Awareness in Fight Against Domestic Violence

The fashion-forward, designer bag collectors, and supporters of women in crisis helped raise funds for Hagar’s Heart, bidding for purses by Louis Vuitton, Coach, and other popular luxury brands at the second annual “Carry the Joy” auction.

The evening of fun, food, music, and fundraising achieved more than $26,000 at the event held April 23, 2022, at the Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington. “It was great to get together with supporters and new friends for a truly worthy cause,” said Jennifer Jones, founder of Hagar’s Heart. “The funds generated at this year’s auction will help our young, but growing nonprofit make more of an impact in the lives of women escaping domestic violence.”

Established during the pandemic as an online support network, Hagar’s Heart quickly gained steam, and began forming partnerships with Dallas-Fort Worth-area domestic violence shelters to provide women with items needed to rediscover how they are seen, valued, and loved. “Shelters provide immediate physical safety, a place to sleep, and a hot shower,” Jones said. “Our volunteers write heartfelt messages of encouragement and affirmation. We include essentials in our individually packed “I See You” boxes, but also unexpected niceties like Dove chocolates. The goal is to let these women know that when they are seemingly at their lowest point in life, they still matter.”

Following reports that aired on WFAA-TV (ABC Dallas) and Spectrum News1, women from across the state of Texas wrote Jones sharing their stories of domestic abuse, validated the importance of organizations like Hagar’s Heart, and asked if the nonprofit planned to launch chapters in locations such as Austin, Houston, and El Paso.

“Great things are on the horizon and I’m willing to go where God leads us next,” said Jones, a survivor, wife, and mom. Individuals may visit hagarsheart.org to learn more about how they or their company can partner with Hagar’s Heart to volunteer or donate.

Encouraged by the progress of the past two years, Jones is already planning for “Carry the Joy 2023,” but is quick to give credit to this year’s in-kind donors: Flying Pig Balloons, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Thakker & Collins. Sponsorships were provided by Hargrave Family Law, The Sound Organisation, Flite to Freedom, Carencia Mental Healthcare, Graystone Insurance, Upper90 Roofing, and Leap of Faith Dance. Live auction donors included: Urban Country Flower Co., Winton & Waits, Paula’s Shuttle Service, Alberto Jimenez Albuquerque, and the Sanford House Inn.

About Hagar’s Heart

Established in 2020, Hagar’s Heart is a nonprofit organization founded to support women in crisis. Through partnerships with domestic violence shelters, our volunteers and each individually wrapped “I See You” box, and handwritten messages help women begin the process of regaining their self-worth. We want all women to know or rediscover that they are seen, valued, and loved.
